Spinzone: DJ Lethal Selecta

The Selecta
by Kalani Wilhelm / 11-5-2008
For over two decades, DJ Lethal Selecta has bled the colors red, yellow and green. If anyone can throw down authentic Jamaican style reggae grooves, it’s the lethal one. Throughout his storied yet somewhat under-the-radar career, this local roots ambassador has injected positive and righteous vibes that helped the reggae concert and club scene flourish in a big way throughout the islands.

“There is a popular saying in reggae music that the race is not for the swift but those who can endure it,” said the veteran roots rocker. “I have to say that I am really proud of the fact that I am still representing authentic reggae dancehall music in Hawai’i.”

His Pacific Sounds Outernational homies celebrate 10 years of powerhouse sound and off the wall events with two bashes this week. With a record label focused on aspiring local reggae artists in the works, there’s still more to come. Loving reggae music is one thing, but his accomplishments and contributions represent what movements are made of.
