LL can sell Old Spice deodorant better than clothes....
LL Cool J's Clothing Line In Trouble
By Meka Udoh
Even the self-proclaimed “Greatest Of All Time” is susceptible to the nation’s financial crisis. LL Cool J’s clothing line with department store Sears seems to have hit a rough patch, as his signature apparel is currently selling for up to half off the suggested retail price. LL teamed up with Sears last May where, according to Nielsen, Sears spent almost $500 million on advertising last year, yet still saw sales decline by $2.2 million.
Could LL's clothing line be in danger of being shut down? "At this point, we are still offering [the line] for fall back-to-school,” a spokeswoman for Sears explained. "We're working on the assortments right now and might edit some things as we see what's resonating."
Unfortunately LL Cool J is not the only person whose clothing line has felt the sting of today’s economic meltdown. Benjamin Bixby, the clothing line of Outkast’s Andre 3000, was reported to be suffering a similar fate as well at the high-end department store Barney’s.
Although his clothing line is treading through rough waters, LL’s acting career is still on high ground, as the Hollywood Reporter states that the rapper is in talks to appear on the upcoming “NCIS” spinoff for CBS. The action drama would naturally take its cues from the current installment, which focuses on an eight-person team that handles criminal investigations for the US Navy.
LL is circling the role of Sam Hanna, an ex-Navy SEAL who recently completed stints in both Afghanistan and Iraq,” Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello said. "Chris O'Donnell and LL would be the first actors to climb aboard the high profile project; four other roles are still being cast."
