Heralded Texas QB recruit follows Jones to SMU
(the day the Rainbows became officially known as Warriors)
As most thought all along the much quarterback recruit from Texas will follow Jones to SMU. The second quarterback recruit as well (I bet they both were in the Colt Brennan mold as far as football IQ, accuracy and arm strength.)
So far, Coach Dennis McKnight (ST), Wes Suan (RB) and Dan Morrison (QB) have said publicly that they will follow June Jones to SMU.
That means Ron Lee (WR), Cal Lee (LB), Rich Miano (DB), Reinfold (idk), George Lumpkin (AC) and most importantly George McMackin (DC) might or will remain at UH.
I hope McMackin gets the head coaching gig and Dick Tomey is appointed athletic director. I don't see Duane Akina or Norm Chow returning to Hawaii for the simple fact that they aren't as in touch with the "Hawaii way" as we might think. They are adapted to the mainland style of doing things and probably have bigger goals in sight than coming back to the University of Hawaii. (maybe Akina or Chow will follow the next UH head coach in a few years, who knows?)
Some may not agree but you can't get much stronger than the Hawaii ties and overall understanding of Hawaii possessed by McMackin and Tomey. UH football may take a few steps back but the passion for the state already instilled in Lumpkin, Miano and the Lee brothers shouldn't put us back too far.
UH diehards stand up!!!
Jones is gone but the coaches that remain all know and understand Jones' vision.
