DJ Anit interview

Photobucket

Kalani: What you have been up to musically and career wise in the last year?
ANIT: "Lets see...Well one of our guests was Donnie from Making the Band. That took place in San Jose at a club called Taste. I usually spin there monthly in the Bay.
Dig Lifestyles Hawaii got me a gig at Les Deux for a street wear convention. that was a pretty dope event especially since Les Deux is known to be an exclusive/celeb spot."
All together, I've been doing more hiphop events in the Bay like at Club 6 , Poleng and Skylark. I'm still trying to get my foot in the door for more bigger commercial clubs.
This year of 2008, I should be getting more gigs in SF and got several gigs lined up from the Uhype promoters and 3 Style Attractions. I have the March 15 Manny Pacquioua in Vegas."

KW: It comes very natural for you but how important is it to you to give off positive "energy" and entertain the crowd?
ANIT: "It's pretty important. I think a crowd likes a dj who is intimate with them. you can see this take place at the W!"

KW: You've added "mash-up" to your arsenal, how else have you grown, improved or changed your style?
ANIT: "I wanted to diversify my music outside of being completely mainstream so I started messing and playing with mashups and hype remixes similar to b more."

KW: You play alot of "girlie anthems" (for lack of a better term) featuring female artists talk about that a little? and why?
ANIT: "Lol. Hmmm... These anthems are fun to dance to! Also, my girls always love them so I'll play it for them! It's for the crowd and myself. plus too, as a girl dj, you need to rock some girly anthems...boys cant do it much!"

KW: How's school going? When will you finish? What's next after that? Will you face any big decisions soon?
ANIT: "I graduate may 2008. i still have yet to decide what i want to do after usf. im thinking of working for a corporate company. i need to decide soon though!!! yikes!"

KW: Will you move back to Hawaii when you graduate? What factors exist?
ANIT: "Damn...let's see. I want to move back if a business opportunity exist. In a way, I want to move back but I know there are alot more opportunities and different people to meet outside of home. also, I know my mom wants me to do more school! So basically, I'm still iffy about this situation and may want to move outside of SF like to LA or Vegas. I'm torn though because I already semi-set my foot into the door in SF. I don't wanna leave the gigs I got there and the people I've met. That's what sucks about graduating and looking for a career!"

KW: Weigh the importance of school and deejaying?
ANIT: "School is way more important than deejaying. I'm the first in my family who will be graduating! Deejaying is pretty up there though. I know I can always toy with my tables when I am either bored, got new music, or just simply hate my hw. lol."

KW: What's the feeling you have whenever you return to Hawaii for the holidays?
ANIT: "It's an awesome feeling. I'm always happy to be home because of the people I know here. The W promoters are all good people and I'm loyal to them whenever I return because of that."

KW: Your favorite Hawaii deejay and why?
ANIT: "Wow. lol. I love all deejays here!"

KW: What were some of the highlights of your time back home?
ANIT: "Hmmm well there was this one time when a guy just rested his arms on my table right in front of me throughout my whole set! He just stood there watching and that was pretty funny yet awkward. My friends were like "How's that guy just staring!" he was pretty old too."

KW: If you made one, what is your New Year's Resolution?
ANIT: "Probably to make a mix tape because I've been lagging."
